About Lex
Lex is a reading-first browser of European Union law. It organises legislation by article, surfaces the case law that interprets each provision, and presents both the verbatim holdings of the Court of Justice and a plain-language restatement alongside.
Sources
All primary materials — legislation, recitals, judgments, advocates' opinions — come from EUR-Lex. We retain the original CELEX identifiers and link back to the canonical source on every page.
Citations & holdings
Article-level citations and holdings are extracted from judgment texts and validated. The plain-language ("simplified") form of each holding is generated with care but is editorial — for any legal use, refer to the original.
Languages
Translations are available in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Dutch where the underlying material has been translated. Where a translation is missing, the English text is shown.
Typography
Body text is set in Source Serif 4; identifiers, dates and interface elements in Inter Tight with tabular figures. The page is sized for a comfortable reading measure of roughly 64 characters per line.
